Best Tongkat Ali in the UK (2026) | Evidence-Based Buyer’s Guide

Best Tongkat Ali (Longjack) in the UK (2026) Buyer's Guide

So you are looking for ways to boost your testosterone, libido, or energy levels. This guide is written for you! You should avoid buying from Amazon or eBay: as you have no idea what you are consuming. This guide will explain what you should actually look for in a Tongkat Ali supplement, the fake terms you should avoid, the science behind it, and any of your most important questions.

If you want to see the Superdosed Tongkat Ali that is inspired to address all the pitfalls and science this guide explains, you can view it here.

First, you have to understand what you’re buying is not Tongkat Ali or Longjack, but Eurycomanone - the active ingredient that makes it effective! That is the ONLY number that actually matters. We want about 6-8mg of Eurycomanone in our supplements for maximum effectiveness.

Section 1: What to Look For (And The "Ratio" Lie)

A quick Google search will show you that most Tongkat Ali sellers use a lot of marketing fluff. There are two big offender here, with the first being the use of extract ratios such as: "1:200 Extract Ratio”. This claim implies they used 200kg of root to make 1kg of extract. The second example is to say “600mg equal to 140,000mg”, which also means nothing it's bullshit.

Ultimately, the only thing that matters is the dosage of the active ingredient Eurycomanone. If a supplement doesn’t tell you how much Eurycomanone it contains? Don’t buy it. If they use “extract ratio” or “equal to” language? Don’t buy it. Its misleading.

1. Look for "Standardized Eurycomanone":

Most supplements tell you the Tongkat Ali/Longjack weight in mg, or some extract multiple like 1:200 equivalent to 133,800MG. A product we’d recommend will tell you exactly how many mg of Eurycomanone you’ll get, or states the percentage of it (multiply this by the total weight to get the Eurycomanone amount). You really want 6-8mg of Eurycomanone. If the label doesn't list a percentage or exact amount of Eurycomanone, avoid it.

2. Check for Third-Party Testing (COA)

Tongkat Ali roots absorb heavy metals from the soil. Buy from a brand that has proper supply-chains and testing in place to ensure you get what you expect.

3. The Colour and Smell Test.

If you’ve already bought some, break open the capsule, and do two tests.

1.   Check its colour. Potent Tongkat Ali extract is sandy or yellowish-brown. If the powder is dark brown black, it has been overheated or burnt, killing the active ingredients. If its too light and not a deep sandy-brown, its diluted.

2.      Taste it. Eurycomanone binds to your bitter taste receptors. it should be overwhelmingly disgustingly bitter, and that flavour should linger for half an hour as you can’t simply wash the bitterness away.

Section 2: The Main Questions and Science behind Tongkat Ali/Longjack

Does Tongkat Ali/Longjack Boost Testosterone Levels?

Yes – but you need the right Tongkat Ali, at the right dosages.

Scientific Studies:

Study 1:

A 1-month study in 76 men (from an initial screening of 320) suffering from late-onset hypogonadism showed that a daily dose of Tongkat Ali extract (2mg–3mg of Eurycomanone) significantly improved hormonal health and quality of life.

Before treatment, only 35.5% of the men had normal testosterone levels; after just one month, 90.8% of participants reached normal testosterone levels.

Additionally, the number of men reporting no symptoms on the Aging Males' Symptoms (AMS) scale jumped from 10.5% at the start to 71.7% by the end of the study.

Study 2:

A two-week study of 32 healthy men (age 24.4) showed that a daily dose of Tongkat Ali (8.7mg Eurycomanone) significantly increased total testosterone by 15%, and free testosterone by 34%, and estradiol. The results demonstrate that Tongkat Ali boosts hormone production via the adrenal axis in healthy young adults, providing measurable gains in testosterone prowess and potential muscle strength in 14 days.

Study 3:

A 12-week study in 105 men aged 50-70 years with low testosterone (<300 ng/dL) showed that daily supplementation with 200 mg of Tongkat Ali (unclear Eurycomanone) significantly increased total testosterone levels. The study also found significant reductions in fatigue scores and improvements in quality of life in both the 100 mg and 200 mg groups. Additionally, muscle strength significantly increased in both Tongkat Ali groups at week 12. The 200 mg dose showed benefits within just 2 weeks of supplementation.

These findings are why Superdosed Tongkat Ali is formulated around a disclosed Eurycomanone dose per serving, rather than relying on vague extract ratios or “equivalent to” claims.

Will Tongkat Ali help with sexual health?

Yes – there is some good evidence that Tongkat Ali does help with male sexual health, particularly with maintaining erections and erectile disfunctions.

Scientific Studies:

Study 1:

A 12-week 2014 study in 26 men (aged 40–65) with reduced sexual potency showed significant results, where a daily dose Tongkat Ali extract (providing 3mg of Eurycomanone) significantly improved erectile function and performance.

Key findings included an 89% success rate in maintaining erections for the full duration of intercourse (compared to 44% at baseline) and a 161% increase in intercourse duration, which rose from an average of 7.47 minutes to 19.56 minutes.

Study 2:

A 12-week 2012 study (Ismail et al.) involving 103 men (aged 30–55) showed that a daily dose of Tongkat Ali (providing approx. 4.5mg of Eurycomanone) significantly improved sexual health. Key results included a 14% increase in sexual libido by week 12 and significantly higher scores in the overall Erectile Function domain. Additionally, those with a BMI over 25 saw a significant decrease in fat mass, and subjects showed an 18.2% increase in semen volume and 44.4% sperm motility.

Study 4:

A 2010 study involving 75 males that were part of couples with infertility found that taking 200mg of Tongkay Ali extract per day significantly improved sperm concentration and motility after 3 months. Following the treatment over 14% of the couples became pregnant, with the Tongkat Ali regiment likely a major influencer. The exact blend and active Eurycomanone were not specified.

Will Tongkat Ali help with stress relief?

There is evidence to suggest Tongkat Ali may lower stress, decrease anxiety, and stabilise mood in general. However, Tongkat Ali’s general purpose is less aniety and psychological stress, which Ashwagandha is more effective at stabilising. Rather, it is more of a general mood balancer. If you want Ashwagandha buy some here.

Scientific Studies:

A 2013 study involving 63 subjects that were screened for moderate stress were supplemented with Tongkat Ali over a 4 week period showed improvements for tension (-11%), anger (-12%), and confusion (-15%). The stress hormone profile (cortisol and testosterone) was significantly reduced with cortisol down (-16%) and testosterone status (+37%).

The majority of studies focus on Tongkat Ali’s testosterone boosting benefits, but there is good scientific reason to think it works for stress relief too – even though our recommendation would be to start with Superdosed Ashwagandha if this is your goal.

Is Tongkat Ali safe, and are there any common side effects?

In general, Tongkat Ali appears to be generally well tolerated in clinical trials, with some people reporting mild gastrointestinal side effects like abdominal pain. The clinical trials that have been shared above using 100–800 mg/day show that Tongkat Ali is well tolerated by most adults, with a safety profile similar to other herbal adaptogens.

A 2013 study on mice found that there was zero toxicity, DNA or organ damage, with the lethal dose being 6,000 mg/kg, an amount that exceeds what humans can consume. With 1.2grams per day being safe according to this study.

Another report in 2021 by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) on Nutrition, Novel Foods and Food Allergens showed that a 2,430mg single dose of Eurycomanone may lead to DNA damage in the stomach and duodenum tissues. Though this dosage far exceeds any dosages that humans could consume.

Like any supplement affecting hormones or stress pathways, certain groups should avoid it, and if you have any pre-existing issues the best advice is always to speak to your healthcare professional first.

Why buy Tongkat Ali from Superdosed?

A common issue with Tongkat Ali is that often they contain more mercury than is recommended. A 2006 study examining over 100 Tongkat Ali supplements in Malaysia (where a lot of the worlds Tongkat Ali comes from), found that over one in four supplements that levels of mercury higher than the recommended limit. With Superdosed, you can be sure you get the strongest and scientifically proven most effective dosages, without any harmful pollutants.
