Curcumin Extract (Turmeric)

Curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, has been extensively studied for its wide-ranging health benefits. With added piperine for enhanced absorption, it is most often chosen for:

Clinical studies on curcumin have used a wide range of doses depending on the target outcome:

A key challenge is poor bioavailability: curcumin on its own is absorbed very poorly. That’s why many clinical studies co-administer curcumin with piperine, which has been shown to increase curcumin absorption by up to 20× (Shoba et al., 1998, Planta Med).

Safety: Curcumin is well-tolerated in human trials even up to 8,000 mg/day for short periods (Cheng et al., 2001, Anticancer Res). Piperine is safe at the low supportive doses used in supplements. At higher intakes, mild digestive upset may occur. Daily use of 500 mg curcumin with piperine is considered safe.
